What a day!!!!

We spent the better part part of the day on The Ute Reservation. We went to Hovenweep National Monument which has Native American ruins that are over 700 years old. It was an awesome place. we hiked 2.5 miles up and down and around the canyon. the sites were amazing. Roger and I both find it so peaceful being in such ancient land. It was a wonderful time.

We then stopped at a great little cafe called The Peace Tree Cafe and got some nice healthy wraps for lunch.

Driving back up to Moab we stopped at The Needles section of Canyonlands National Park for another 2.5 mile hike. I find these canyons to be so far superior to the Grand Canyon. It is just stunningly beautiful every where you turn. We also stopped at Newspaper Rock which has Native American drawings dating back over 2000 years. There are a few spots where some very mean people defaced the art but you can look past that and see the beauty in the art.

Tonight we ate at our favorite italian restaurant called Pasta Jay's. OMG it is so good. They really believe in using garlic.!!!

I am crashing now. I have a pick up at 6:15 and will spend 1/2 the day on a photo tour. I can't get blogger to upload my photos from today so I will try again tomorrow.

WE ARE HERE!!!!!!!!

Well it has been a really long day. We got up at 4AM to get to the airport on time for our 6:15 flight. We connected in Chicago and about 3/4 of the way through that flight there was a medical emergency on the plane. It was a little scary but looked like the guy was doing OK when we got off the plane. We landed in Salt Lake City on time (11AM) and we were in our rental car and on the highway by 11:20. THATS why we don't check luggage. LOL

The drive, once we got away from the city, on rte 70 across the state was beautiful. As you can see. Every view out the window was just wonderful. We even saw cowboys hearding, or wrangling, cows. WAY COOL

We found this awesome over look that is an acient salt bed. It was overcast so I could not capture the colors like I would have liked. But I did get a good shot of Roger checking it out.

Once we finally got to Moab, around 3:30pm we checked into the hotel then went to our favorite place for an early dinner. The Moab Brewery. Roger got a beer I got their home brewed root beer. SOOOOOO GOOOD. We walked around town poking into stores and galleries

It is going to be an early night tonight because tomorrow we will be hiking out butts off!!.

We are hitting the dusty trail again!!!

Well we are so excited because Roger and I are Utah bound again. on October 7th we will be heading out for 7 day vacation. Instead of trying to cover as much of the state as possible we have decided to really concentrate on 2 places: Moab and Salt Lake City. I absolutely LOVE Moab. it is such a cool and diverse town.

In honor of this trip I am resurrecting my Diva in the Desert blog to document the trip. I just spent an hour or s rereading about our last trip and now I am all excited. October can not get here fast enough now.

Fun with Scotty in Canyonlands

OK, 1st of all my sister Tina thinks I am about to lose Roger someplace in the desert and take off with Scotty Pippen. As appealing as that sounds Tina, I don't think I will be able to do that because Scotty is just WAY to tall for me.

Today we headed out to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. it is stunning. It is actually thte park of the park that is the bottom of the canyon that you look at from the rim we were on the other day. Let me tell you it was HOT out in the desert. It was 87 degrees today and man walking in the desert is crazy. We only did 3 miles today in 2 seperate 1.5 mile hikes. They were very easy and we did it that way b/c of the heat. I had some left over BBQ ribs from dinner last night and we ate them for lunch today. After hiking 3 miles those ribs were the most wonderful things we had ever eaten.

Tomorrow is our treck to Salt Lake City to finish up the trip. I can't believe that we are at the end of the vacation. Just finishing up laundry. Some packing of boxes to ship home tomorrow and then we head out! WOW that went fast

Hummer ride/ river rafting day

what a fun day. we took a hummer ride out to Hell's Revenge which is a 4 wheel drive biking park on slick rock. SO SO SO cool!! Out guide had us climbing up rocks in the hummer at a 40 dgree angle. So much fun. Then in the afternoon we were white water rafting. We did a few class 3 rapids and actually passed by out hotel on the ride. This was a blast and I would LOVE to do it again with the boys. Scotty Pippen had to ride in a box since he did not have a life vest. He was able to get out onto the boat after lunch.

It was great for hime to get out on the water. We did out tour with Adrift Adventures and they were great. Awesome guides.

we came back to the hotel and hung out at the pool for a while. Ate dinner at the Moab Brewery YUMMMMMMMM love the home brewed rootbeer!! Then we went back to canyonlands to the Green River Outlook to watch the sunset. MAN WHAT BEAUTY!!!!!

I am so glad we took the time to just sit quietly and watch the changes for about an hour. It was amazing
